Goal 6: Provide school personnel, parents and the student body opportunities to understand asthma.

Based on priority issues identified by the school administrator or school contact, asthma education and awareness activities are directed at four groups within the school community. The groups and related activities include:

  1. General School Community (includes parents, student body) (6i)
    • Provide School Assemblies
    • Provide Classroom Presentations
    • Provide Library Resources
    • Asthma Awareness Challenge
    • Presentation to School Council
    • Display Posters/Murals
    • Create School Bulletin Boards
    • Set-up Asthma Displays
    • Publish asthma articles in School Newsletter
    • Provide PA Announcements

  2. School Personnel (6ii)
    • Provide workshop/in-service
    • Identify Asthma Champion

  3. Students with Asthma (6iii)
    • Identify Students with Asthma
    • Provide Education e.g., Roaring Adventures of Puff (RAP)
    • Work with them to provide school wide activities/events to increase asthma awareness

  4. Parents of Students with Asthma (6iv)
    • Distribute asthma related  information and school forms to complete
    • Publish School Newsletter Articles
    • Offer Asthma Education Events

All activities and resources have been developed and tested by the Public Health School Asthma Pilot Project Team. The activities and resources are meant to supplement, not replace, those in the CAFS Resource Kit and Roaring Adventures of Puff Instructor Manual.
